You all think you're counting down? I have 12 more Mondays to work in my life before retirement. Then it's off for a month to England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. And people are asking me what I'm going to do with myself after working for 45 years!

What fun reading about everyone's plans! We'll have to start a Fodorites babysitting club to make sure our compatriots can get away when they want to exotic locales!

I'm leaving this coming Sunday for two months' travels to Italy, France, Great Britain, and Ireland before flying back to No. CA. I'm getting so excited that the only safe place for me to be is on the Fodors Forum. "Normal" folks in the outside world just don't understand this bouncing off the walls.

I hope to have some interesting tales to relate in a trip report upon my return. Have fun everyone!!

Going to Turkey during the last 2 weeks of May. I've been to Italy and Spain in '99 and '00, and from what I hear, Turkey is even more beautiful. It'll be difficult to beat Italy, but we'll see!

I usually plan my trips 3-4 months in advance, but have been known to make plans on impulse, especially for domestic travel.

I'll be spending 3 weeks in the Dordogne in June, with probably a little foray down into the Pyrénées, and then 5 days in Normandy and 3 in Paris. And a week in Chincoteague, VA, in mid-August. Then it's back to work until next springtime

Judy,
I planned our upcoming trip to Italy starting 13 months ago.
Eager? Yeas!
We have a few long weekends to a friend's place in Lewes, Delaware, but the biggy is the 18 days in Italy, Rome and Formia will be our two bases.
Carolyn,
Enjoy your "retirement" I hope it is filled with wonderful things to do, and also as much *doing nothing* that makes you happy.

Judy

I've been actively, intensely, joyously (rabidly?) planning our month-long October 2001 trip to Italy since we retured from Europe in August 2000. Planning, for me, is definitely an important part of the wonderful fun of the whole travel experience.

My husband and I going to Turkey and Greece at the end of May for 2 1/2 weeks. We are also going to Germany and Austria in September, we'll be in Munich for Oktoberfest. I plan our trips about 3-6 months ahead of time. I usually plan my next trip right after I get back from one, and sometimes I'm planning two trips ahead.

Good Lord willing, this will be my 6th trip to Switzerland. Nothing better than getting on some high mountain walk with the sunshine in your face and some sparkling glacier off in the distance.

Saas Fee, Zermatt and Wengen will be my stops this year.

This will be my second trip to the Saas Valley of Saas Fee, Saas Grund, Saas Balen and Saas Almagel.

Also looking forward to taking more walks aroung the Sunnega area above Zermatt.

Then I'll wrap up the 2001 trip with a jaunt over to Wengen.
To S. Fowler: If you would like to plan a get together in London, let me know. Probably, my only time would be Thurs. night for dinner. We are going to Stonehenge and Bath on Tues. and Mamma Mia and Lion King on Wed. We are either going to Hampton Court or Windsor Thurs morning and then was planning to see the British Museum later in the afternoon since they are open late on Thursday. How many in you group? If Thursday does not work for you, I will look for your fodor pin around London. I will be wearing mine.

I thought I wanted Wendy's life, too, but as I read on, I decided that Scott had an even more impressive summer resume. Poor me! I'm only going to Paris and the Riviera.

I have the privilage of touring with the VYSO (Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra) through Scotland stopping at (pardon my spelling) Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, and other small coastal villages. Then while the rest of the group heads home, my mother and I, I am only 16, will be going off to London for seven odd days. I can hardly wait. . . . .

We can only travel in summer now with school aged kids. We will do 6 days in London starting end of July then Eurostar to Paris for 4 days then train to Rome for 4 days. 5 day sin Tuscany then 2 in Milan before we fly back to LA. It's a lot of running but we were last there 3 years ago everyone wanted to return to these places. Last summer (while we were saving for this trip) ws Seattle and San Juan Islands..highly recommend it.
Karen

Don't travel during the summer. Too hot, two crowded, too expensive. Shoulder season has the best combination of mild weather, lower prices and moderate crowds. May even try winter travel some time!
