Where are the statues located from "Thief Lord" movie-Venice
While we are in Italy we are making a point of taking our daughter, 15, to see the places that she has read about and also seen in her favorite movies, (Twilight is one of them.)
The Thief Lord, which takes place in Venice, is her all time favorite book and movie but I can't seem to locate where the statues are located, the ones that are in the movie. There is the statue of Neptune, a huge lion, a mermaid, a man on a horse, an angel and a few others. If anyone is a Thief Lord fan and knows where to locate these statues I would appreciate it greatly!! Thanks so much, GG |
There are winged lions all over Venice, since that is the symbol of Venice and its patron saint. Are you sure the other statues actually exist and were not just props for the movie?

I think they are actual statues.

I have read the book but not seen the movie. One statue you didn't mention, the statue to Niccolò Tommaseo in Campo San Stefano, is a place where the characters often meet.
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Ca...mmaseo_(Venice) Many winged lions are all over the city, especially in Piazza San Marco. . . .on top of a column facing the water or on the facade of the Doge's palace or clock tower, though I think the book references the clock tower lion "among the stars." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piazza_San_Marco http://www.photography-edu.com/2009/...ock-tower.html There are two Neptune statues that I know of: one in the courtyard of the Doge's Palace at the Scala dei Giganti, and one at the entrance to the Arsenale. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/36667641 http://www.flickr.com/photos/fundone/4401156957/ The man on a horse might be the Colleoni statue in Campo dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo http://www.bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/i...errocchio.html There are a lot of angel statues, so it would be hard to make a suggestion without seeing the movie. |
You mentioned Twilight. Just to make sure that your daughter doesn't go looking for things that aren't there, the movie was actually filmed in Montepulciano, though the scenes in the book are, indeed, set in Volterra.

Thank you ellen for the links and help!
Also, Lexma, we found out through another poster about Montepulciano so that is taken care of, but thank you for your help! GG |
