What Churches and religious sites should we visit when in Chianti?
I haven't seen mention of as many churches and religious sites in the Chianti area as I did when planning our trip for the more southern part of Tuscany. We will be in Florence one day, but how about other sites in the Chianti area? We'll be staying near Castellina in Chianti, not sure I want to make the trip to Assisi, Google says 2 1/2 hrs.

Make sure you visit Siena's Duomo, beautifu and a must see. The floor mosaics alone are worth the visit.
Every small village will have at least one church. Panzano's dates to 1000AD. San Gimi's has wonderful frescoes. Outside of Chianti but closer than Assisi, Arezzo's cathedral is famous for it's frescoes too.
We've stayed in Castellina twice, a great location. Have a wonderful trip.

Not in Chianti but just south, the Abbey of San Galgano is a wonderful visit that I highly recommend. After visiting the abbey, be sure to take the short walk along the vineyard to the Montesiepi chapel.

Though a bit south of Chianti wine region itself, the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore has splendid frescoes in the cloisters. There is daily Vespers sung to Gregorian chant at 6.30 pm in the abbey church.

Sorry, I should have been more specific ~ we won't be as far south as Siena and the Abbey of San Galgano . We missed the Abbey last time when we were in the more southern part of Tuscany, but we did see Siena's Duomo.
Thanks for the heads up for Panzano and SG. I'll save Arezzo for our future Umbria trip!
