Besides Museums are there any interesting Galleries or areas like our SOHO ( of the past) in NYC?

You will find some information at the Feuilleton or cultural reports of the German nationally distributed newspapers as

FAZ Kunst (art)http://www.faz.net/s/RubEBED639C476B...emenseite.html
FAZ Kunstmarkt (art market)
http://www.faz.net/s/RubBC09F7BF72A2...emenseite.html

Die Zeit Veranstaltungen (events)

NZZ Feuilleton (cultural reports)

Some museums off the beaten track:
Emden, Kunsthalle
http://kunsthalle.conne.net/

Mannheim, Kunsthalle
http://www.kunsthalle-mannheim.de/museum
Mannheim, Kunstverein
http://web.mannheim.de/kunstverein/index_f.html

btw. Kunstverein is something like friends of artīs association. There is one to be found in every larger town, so you can do a google resarch on this.

Chemnitz, König-Albert-Museum

an art center in Saxony
Leipzig - art link page

When you travel at Lake Constance, you can indulge in landcape and artistic delights. There are collections to be found in nearly every town or village, most of them of regional interest, but worth a visit nevertheless.
Vorarlberg, Austria, the land between lake an Arrlnberf mountain is known for modern architecture and ambitious art museums: http://www.findimweb.de/c,325.html
In Switzerland, Basel is a center of art and art collecting,

Winterthur has an interesting art museum off the beaten track: http://www.museumoskarreinhart.ch/

The Gemäldegalerie in Berlin is one of the top 10 fine arts museums in the world.

I'm starting to plan a trip around fine art in Germany so this will be helpful.

Don't know yet whether I'll travel by car or by train.
