When will the Venice carnival start?
 

when is the carnival starting? Also, how lond does it go on for?

I'm confused! The Fodor's 2003 Italy guidebook (p.XLVII) says Carnival goes from Mar. 4 - 11. Is this a misprint? It makes sense to me that Carnival would end on Shrove Tuesday (Mar. 4).

It's a misprint. You can even verify the Roman Catholic church calendar at <BR>http://www.smart.net/mmontes-cgi-bin/cal-form.cgi<BR><BR>Colleen is correct in her above-mentioned posting!

Website as listed above says exactly what Colleen says it does - carnival is from February 21 to March 4th. <BR><BR>(Hope you weren't counting of Fodor's for your trip dates this time!) Thanks, Karen &amp; Eye Spy! I saw later in the same Fodor's guide that Carnival ends the day before Ash Wednesday, which is Mar. 5. Oh well, even Fodor's is entitled to a mistake now &amp; then. We had started to get excited about being there at Carnival but will have to save that for another trip.
