When will the renovations to the cathedral in Barcelona be completed?

I will be visiting Barcelona in September, and I am very interested in staying at the Colon for the amazing view of the cathedral. However, I have been reading that the cathedral is presently undergoing renovations and that there is scaffolding covering the facade. If this will be the situation in September, I will select a different hotel. If anyone knows the completion date of the renovations, I would appreciate it if you would share that infomation.

Thanks to anyone who can help!

I have been to Barcelona three times and have yet to enter the cathedral. Despite posted hours that it is open, it never has been during those hours. I've given up. This is over the past 10 years, by the way.

I've stayed in the Colon several times and have always asked for, and gotten, a room overlooking the square and the cathedral..never had any trouble getting inside, either. A great location, scaffolding or not, due to the goings-on in the square itself and the proximity to other places in the Gothic Quarter, IMO.

The Cathedral, soon. La Sagrada Familia, never.

We were in Barcelona in Nov. and I don't recall extensive scaffolding... but then I'm getting a little long in the tooth-:) We stayed at the Colon some time ago and reveled in the view of the cathedral lighted at night (scaffolding doesn't go all the way up).
On weekends the Sardana (sp?) is performed in front of the cathedral for which we had a ring side seat. Other than that, the inside is spectacular.. and to the left of the cathedral as you look from the Colon is a lovely spot for Tapas, etc.

Re: The Cathedral, soon. La Sagrada Familia, never.

Very funny...and it raises an interesting question: will La Sagrada Familia ever be completed and, if so, when might that be?

With apologies to Zager & Evans...

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find (that La Sagrada Familia is finally done)

Patrick, I've only been to Barcelona once, and got to see the inside of the Cathedral. It's beautiful. You know what they say: if at first -- and on the next two times -- you don't succeed...
