when to travel to Eastern Europe
When is the best time of year to visit the Czech Rep, Slovakia, and Hungary? Looks like May thru Sep are warmer but May thru Aug are wetter...that would leave September as possibly the "ideal" month. Any opinions? What about in terms of tourist traffic and local events?

Been there in September. Good weather, not crowded.

September is, overall, the best month to travel in Europe.

I'd suggest May/June or September. The weather can get very hot in summer months, particularly in Slovakia/Hungary.

I will add April and most of October.

May and June are fine times. September is also nice, but I understand that the Czech Republic sees its largest numbers of tourists in Sept/Oct -- "seniors" (tho not exclusively) after students are in school. October can be cool.

In my experiance, September is the best time to visit Central Europe.
There are no best times...Any time will provide a wonderful experience. Off seasons, you will be very important. High season, crowds but weather is nice. Please know that theatre season is on in off-season. Europe functions year around! Don,t delat, please come!

It's hard to predict the weather except extremes. I've been to Prague in May twice -- one year it was warmer than usual at that time (nice, though) and didn't rain at all; last year it rained almost every single day and was rather cool. If you can go in September, sounds good to me. May has a big annual international classical music festival, also, which means you have to book early to get a hotel room (around January-Feb. for best selection).
