When to rent car on 3 week Scandinavia trip
This summer we will be flying into and out of Oslo. We would like to visit Oslo, the western fjord region, Lofoten Islands,Stockholm,Visby, Norway in a Nutshell. We've rented cars in Ireland, Switzerland and Germany previously. I need to know at which point would it be the most economical and efficient way to work this out (with renting a car)?

Do not take oneway rental, expensive in Norway, if there is no place b etween oslo and Lofoten you should fly to Bodo and on to Lofoten and rent there, drive around and take plane same way back. Train from oslo to bergen including nutshell Flåm rail and boat on the fjord. Plane via Trondheim to Bodø. Or opposite Bodø-trondheim-bergen-oslo. Cheaper air fare the sooner booked.
You can fly between Oslo and Visby www.wideroe.no. Don't think thre is any direct flight bergen-Stockholm |
deladeb, what is "ttt"? I keep seeing it.

It means "to the top"...a way to refresh a question to hopefully get additional responses

If you fly into and out from same airport, by all means go ahead and rent a car for the 3 weeks - if you can afford it (Norway is expensive, thanks to weak dollar) - drive every day and stay at different places every day - go ahead and drive to the North Cape!! We did that in summer 1990 - flew to Stockholm and went on a 3 1/2 weeks 3800 miles driving odyssey thru Sweden, Norway (entered near Trondheim and continued north) and Finland (entered below Kirkenes, Norway) and back to Stockholm. Great time!
4 years before that we honeymooned in Bergen and drove to Oslo, and then took ship to Copenhagen. |
