When to go Travelling?
Hey, never been travelling before I am planning 1 months trip around Europe and could really do with some advise.
Starting with when to go... I was originally going to go through May (my mum put me off by saying it may be quite cold!) I can't go in June (my sister is home from the middle east for that month) My last thought was July! (warm, beer gardens, more fun! and more money as I will have more time to save!) I need to know which you would do May or July??? |
It won't be cold in May, but I would go in July anyway, though airfare and other prices might be more, depleting the extra savings.
|
I should modify my response by saying the weather will depend on where you are heading - you can't expect much warmth high up in the Alps, for example, in May. Europe is an big continent - where are you headed?
|
and depending on where you go, it could be hot and humid.
|
Depends on where you go and where you are from. I find weather in May to be much more moderate and pleasant for touring. July tends to get hot to very hot (unless you stick to mountains or Scandinavia) and I hate heat.
But if you think 60 is cold - don't go in May. |
In May I would be heading to France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, Hungary, Romania. In July I'd avoid Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal and focus more on UK, Ireland, the Low countries, Germany, Austria, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Norway
If money is an issue then cross out Norway If very late in July I'd stay where you are as the European Holiday season is on us |
I would go in May to avoid the crowds, unless I was going north, and maybe even then. If I were going to Spain or southern France or Italy or Greece I would definitely go in May.
|
Thank you for your help.
I am from the UK, so I am used to the cold! I haven't decided on exact destinations yet, that is my next form of help haha, but I am looking at cities in Austria, France, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia etc. So I am not looking at snow zone ( the last thing I want is to be trecking round my snow boots) and I am not looking at summer destinations either like greece, turkey, spain. |
You could certainly choose to be in the snow zone in May in most of those countries, even Italy (the Dolomites). One month isn't long enough for all of that, you need to prioritize. What are your interests?
|
I am paying for a rail ticket for a month and extend if i decide somewhere longer.
I mainly want to find me, meet people and go out of my comfort zone. I want to explore and see the sights. |
Also I am training as a photographer so want to get some good shots
|
Definitely May if I had a choice!
|
If you're interested in photography you DEFINITELY need to slow down. You need to get a feel for a particular place, to find out when the light is best, to wander the back streets, to hang around waiting for the "perfect" shot, for serendipity...
Have you already bought the transport pass? Because of it not you may find it cheaper to buy point-to-point tickets in advance. Read this: http://www.seat61.com/Railpass-and-E...0pay-as-you-go |
thats great thanks.
i was looking at rail passes for under 24 is only £360 for a month, unlimited travel. |
