When to go to Paris

We are limited to summers and school holidays. If you had a choice of going to Paris and Burgundy anytime from Mid June to end of August which would you choose?

We are planning on two weeks, with about 4-5 days in Paris then the Loire valley and Burgundy

I'd pick June to early July. August is too hot for me in lots of places, including here at home. Some restaurants and small businesses close in August so that they can take an annual holiday, but that's not an important factor to me.

Hi ga,

As early in June as feasible.

I'd go as early or as late as possible. There really are not many Parisians around in August and it generally is much too hot. The first week of September is wonderful as is April, May and most of June. However, Paris is great any time of year!

The one and only time I was in Paris was right in the middle of August.
It was nice and warm during the day, never too hot, but believe it or not it was actually kind of chilly on some days at around 4/5 PM.

I'd go to Paris at any time of year!

Any time is good in Paris.

As early as possible:

The weather will be better

There will be (marginaly) fewer tourists

It will be light later at night - giving you more touring time

Average high temps for Paris are not that much higher for July and August than June (just a few degrees). Both times we visited in mid-June, there was a heat wave - seven out of ten days the first trip (nearly 100 every day, and hardly any cooler at night), and the last few days of the second trip (but just nearly 90).

But I'd still pick June over July or August for the later sunsets and chance of fewer tourists, and that, on average, it will be cooler in June than July or August. To be on the safe side, I'd book a hotel with a/c.

I've been to Paris many times in August and like it then.

But I think the real question here isn't so much about Paris, but about Burgundy and the Loire. I'd choose June for those two as there will be far fewer tourists than during those European holidays of August!
