When to buy travel insurance?
Is it best to buy the insurance before booking anything? My group of 5 friends have elderly relatives (and most of us aren't so young ourselves!!!) so we will need insurance to reimburse us if something comes up and we have to cancel. Can someone give me an idea of a good policy to buy for this situation? Of course, we will all get our own. Thanks!!!!

You can go to: www.insuremytrip.com

Check out www.squaremouth.com or www.insuremytrip.com. These will give you good information to get you started.
You can also check here for travel insurance reviews: http://www.travelinsurancereview.net/ |
BTW, we bought our policies after we booked our airfare.

You usually have about 14 days after purchasing your air transportation to buy trip insurance and get coverage for pre-existing conditions.
|
If TrueTravel - they require within 21 days of first purchase. Example: we go on a cruise, paid deposit 09/01. We have to buy insurance before 09/22 to avoid exclusion of pre-existing conditions.
Insuremytrip gives a good comparison of different insurances. I think if one of the group (the youngest) gets insurance for all, it may be cheaper - check out the quotes. |
Be sure to read the fine print. What one part of the contract gives you, the fine print a couple of pages away can take away.

Actually, some insurance policies for FULL coverage of everything require purchase within so many days after YOU MAKE YOUR FIRST NON-REFUNDABLE PURCHASE..and that may or may not be an airline ticket.
