When to buy tickets to rome in June?

We're going early June and the prices seem a bit high ($1200 rt). We'd prefer to fly direct on delta or aa. Any idea when there might be some sales on this route for this time? Thanks!

on what route? from honolulu? boise? orlando? From a number of cities, you can do better than $1200 on www.affordablepoland.com or justfares.com right NOW - - just to name two consolidators - - though it may not be on delta or aa.

The sales - - if they ever do occur - - haven't really happened for April/May yet, with just a few exceptions. They may come, in an eyeblink in the next month. Watch for those. then check everyday for the 3-4 weeks after you see some Apr/May sale prices.

Best wishes,

Rex
[email protected]
Sera, one idea might be to hang out on the Delta and AA web sites, checking their internet specials hourly if you have a chance. Many Fodorites have reported huge sales that last an hour or less. You might get lucky!

Buon Viaggio

Sera-
We just booked our tkts to Rome on American for mid-May from Minneapolis for $560! Don't know if there is a sale going on or what but it would be worth checking out.

Out of New York...Buffalo, Syracuse, Albany, New York City (La Guardia? JFK?), New York is kinda of a big state.

Would you consider Newark, New Jersey? Continental is known to have great fares to Europe from there. Also Air Portugal has some flights. For early June, go-today.com has great packages to Italy right now. Good luck

Sera,

It's hard to predict how airfares will go this year, given the world situation, but unfortunately, $1200 sounds about right for early June. We booked an early July trip from New York-Rome several months ago, and were only able to land an airfare just under $1000 by stopping in London and continuing on from there. However, you might find something through one of the consolidators like TRAVAC, which has an office in New York. Good luck!

Try economytravel.com I just purchased tickets from LAX to Rome for the high 600$s, traveling in May . I can't believe it would be so high from NY.

Is the economytravel.com a legitimate site? I just bought a ticket from them. The price was very low and now I am nervous. I used an AX card, figuring I could get my money back.
Anyone have any info?

Thanks

Sounds way too high to me. We've never paid over $600 R/T from Denver in the May time frame. Of course, this is a different year, but prices do seem to be crawling down. Have you looked at bestfares.com to see if they have anything? From NY you should be able to get the best of deals.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Unfortunately, a search of economy travel brought up this response: "There are no fares per your request." The plan is to leave via JFK, but I supposed Newark would be fine too. I'll keep searching.

I would call economy travel, their number is on the web site. The staff are really helpful and found me a good fare when the one I had wanted sold out overnight.

Tip to Sera - - if you search for NYC, as opposed to EWR or JFK or LGA - - most software will automatically search for all "co-terminals" (even Islip, perhaps on some routes).
Hi Sera,
If you are willing to change planes at LHR, www.tiss.com is offering JFK/FCO for $606 on British Air.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Today's Wall Street Journal has a great article about when to book for summer to get the best prices on flights, hotels, etc. It says buy europe fares right now, they won't go lower. Saw $531 rt JFK-Rome on american airlines last tuesday, but I was so busy at work I didn't get a chance to book. Alas, the fare is now $100 higher.

I think you have to use a consolidator or check orbitz.com type sites daily. I check almost every morning and had been seeing flights over $1100 each, Chicago to Milan. Booked last wk for only $600 each on Continental (1 stop in Newark). In high season: Late June to Early July. Checked a few hours later and the fare was up to over $800 so those 1 hour quick windows are real and worth it! Good luck!
