When to buy plane tickets for June?

Not being an extremely seasoned traveler, I'm hoping someone can prophecy for me on this! Right now I've found a price of $704 total on USAir (inc. taxes, etc.) to fly from Nashville to Manchester, UK, then back to Nashville through Shannon, June 5-20. Is that price likely to go down at all, or should I go ahead and book now? Booking so far in advance makes me a little nervous, but I don't want to wait and just wind up paying more.

I checked my eight ball (the crystal is in the shop) and it gives a big "okay doke". It's a crap shoot! Nobody knows. That price sounds pretty good, coming out of Nashville. I bought a ticket for this past November last March and watched the prices (for Nov)steadily rose over the summer and then (in the last month before the trip) the prices went down. I could have saved $150 per ticket by waiting, but who knows the price fuel and other market factors could have driven the price up. Then again, I probably would have spent the cash elsewhere.

I say... look for a Sale or what appears to be a good price, buy the ticket and forget about it. I usually dont follw what I say.

A few pet peeves for US Air. The seats we were assigned were very narrow. The Other carriers on this trip (Air Canada and Luft) were fine. What ever happened to my free wine???

Hi J,

Neither mobissimo.com nor kayak.com has anything less than $1019 for your dates.

I can't see prices dropping by more than $50 if you wait.

Sounds like a good price to me. I'd book it now, as you'll only have to pay a deposit. If anything, the fare will go up.

For $704 AND the dates and destinations you WANT? IMO you should go for it. There are no guarantees but with fares for later in the year running at $1000+ out of some markets and unless there is a sale...well..I'll let you decide.

Like someone said, it's a crapshoot. I just checked for our trip next Sept/Oct and can get tickets for a flight into Milan and out of Rome 3 weeks later for about $965. That's about $200 less than we had to pay in 2005!

I think we have consensus! I found a price close to that on Orbitz, then went to USAir's web site directly and it was cheaper. Thanks for all your input!

I purchased tickets this past June RT BNA - LGW for $780 departing 5/28/07 with return 6/7/07. I thought it was a fair price and had no hesitation buying so early. That is what trip insurance is for. When I look now I can't fine anything under a thousand and think I got pretty lucky.

Book it, Danno. That sounds like an excellent price.
