I'm pretty happy about this - I checked the American website last night and the tickets have gone down in price again.
I originally paid $580-something, including taxes for BOS-LHR, late May to mid June trip (booked in September 2005). In January, I got a refund of more than $30 per ticket (4 tickets total) when the price went down to $550-something. The price is now $510 (almost exactly) on American's website, so we called again and are getting another refund of $40+ per ticket. Same flight, same seats, no fees, no "vouchers" (a genuine credit card refund), and NO HASSLE. So, we've saved about $75 per ticket, and are now paying almost exactly the same amount we've paid every time we've flown to LHR over a 25-year span of time. (Paid more last July - $683; less one year at Thanksgiving - $400; always within $20 of $500 on 10-12 other occasions.) Just thought I'd share, in case this helps anyone else. Gayle |
I think AA would refund on CC only if it's an international ticket.
For AA domestic tickets, if it's a deeply-discounted, non-refundable ticket, one can get a refund for price difference, but one would have to pay the $100 change fee. So it's only worthwhile if the drop in price is greater than $100. The only time they waive the $100 change fee for non-refundable tickets is if the price drop occurs within 24 hours of your ticket purchase. This happened to me last month, and they agreed to give me a refund. BUT, the domestic refund only comes in vouchers, not CC refund. And one has to pay $10 service charge when one cashes in the vouchers (which expire 1 year from date of issue). |
