when in rome????

What is the best area of Rome to stay in for ease of movement relative to the main attractions, safety and restaurants? Budget $250-300 USD with breakfast, taxes and fees. Would like a balcony....

The areas around the Pantheon, Piazza Navona and Campo di Fiore are all good, central locations with many restaurants nearby. The Hotel Del Senato has a small double room looking out on the Pantheon/Piazza della Rotonda that has a balcony. It may be in your budget.

Hi

My wife and I went to Rome a couple of years back and we stayed near Termini and found that to be quite nice. I have posted a trip report with pictures and links on my homepage http://gardkarlsen.com/rome_italy.htm . Maybe you can find some useful info there :d Get in touch if you have any questions.

Regards

I would stay in the historic center; Pantheon/Piazza Navona. It is an area within minutes on foot to most major sights and within a mile or two of The Vatican and/or the ancient sites. Tons of restaurants etc of all prices too. Hotel Portoghesi is right in the center of the area, yet is on a very quiet street. It fits into your budget as well.

We've stayed twice now at Hotel Fontana. While our room itself did not have a balcony, the breakfast room looks out right onto Trevi Fountain. It was a great location - we walked everywhere. The price will depend on when you are going but we enjoyed that location very much.

I agree with the Pantheon/Piazza Navona area. Easy walking to most of the sights and great restaurants and shops. We stayed at the Albergo Cesari, but we didn't have a balcony.
