I have seen countless photos of the beautiful purple bougainvillea flowers blooming across terraces in Capri and Amalfi. Can anyone tell me during which months these flowers are in peak bloom?

Also, any thoughts on visiting the area during mid-May vs early September? I am looking for warm, clear/sunny weather for optimal photographs. (but of course we would also prefer to avoid the oppressive crowds... we plan to spend 2 nights in Anacapri and 2-3 nights in Positano).

We were there in mid June and the bougainvillea were in bloom everywhere, covering the walkways down to the waterfront. I would definitely opt for earlier rather than later if you're looking for cooler temps - September can be extremely hot. Enjoy your trip - the area is beautiful!

Bougainvillea blooming here in south Texas for those who aren't able to get to Italy this spring. Gee they are pretty and some of the most unusual colors; not just fuchsia or purple.

May is plenty warm - the hotels have their pools open - and you have longer days and fewer tourists than Sept - which can still be VERY hot.

I would imagine they have flowers all year.. ours are colorful all year.

Here there are definitely months when they don't flower, hence the "first blooms" remark!

As a Califronia native, I can tell you they are long-blooming. Pretty much all during warm weather - spring thru fall.

What I loved about the Amalfi Coast at the end of March during my first visit was the wisteria! Gorgeous!
