When and where to purchase my tickets for Milan-Venice and Venice-Rome

I have done some reading/researching in this website but I am still confused what is the best way to purchase my rail tickets. I read that the online purchase doesn't accept American credit cards/can't close the online sale? If I have to buy my tickets after we arrive in Italy, what is the best way and is there a way to get them cheap like it offers online?
thanks in advance

Italian rail tickets are always cheap, whenever or wherever you buy them. Fares per kilometre are much less than in France, Switzerland or Germany.
The best way to buy tickets depends on where you are and how much time you have. I normally just buy tickets at the station, either from a ticket office or a machine. You can go to a travel agency in Italy, but their opening hours are more limited.

You can buy all your tickets at any train station or travel agency as Geoff mentioned. The machines that have an English option and accept U.S. credit cards. (The ticket sellers and travel agenciesaccept U.S. credit cards as well.)
