wheelchair
anyone know where you can rent a wheelchair in amsterdam? we tried to find this out several years ago and didn't have any luck. trying again.
|
Contact the concierge of your hotel. They will be able to refer you to local hospital supply stores than you can make arrangements with - or even do it for you if you want.
|
BTW do you know there are wheelchairs and then there are companion chairs? St least here in USA.
If you will for be pushing someone all the time, the wheelchair is heavier with two latge wheels than the companion chair which has 4 small wheels. If the person needs to propell themselves at some point stick with the usual wheelchair, but if it is just for the pupose of being pushed on long walks, ask if they have the lighter ones. |
This does not answer your question directly, but this URL is for a site that details handicapped travel in Amsterdam.

Hi speaking of wheelchairs, I am in the process of buying a wheelchair, not manual , to send to SA to a young girl that needs one. Since money is an issue I was wondering if anyone knows where I could buy a good used one. Thank you.
|
Where are you?
|
In the US but I am going to send it to South America.
I hesitate to buy a used one..but I cannot afford a new one. |
I asked where you were only so folks that might be able to help you find a used wheelchair could be of assistance. You surely would want to pick a used one up close by so as to minimize expenses.
Often Goodwill shops or similar charities can be of help. Craigslist for larger cities might also be a source. Best of luck with your search. :-) |
Thank you nukesafe for your help. I shall find it, I really wish to help her, she is 18กกก
|
Graziella you might want to take a look at www.craigslist.org (where you can also post an item saying that you want to buy a wheelchair) as well as check out local Goodwill stores.

Joanel, there are welfare organisations which hire wheelchairs but you normally need to be a member for those. i would send an e-mail to [email protected] which is the Amsterdam info bureau and they should be able to help. There is an organisation caleed Welzorg you can fax on 020-4313540.
Many attractions and shopping areas around Holland have wheelchairs you can borrow for the day, but I don't know where you can do that in Amsterdam, sorry. |
Don't know if it is the same in Amsterdam, but we found that in France our local pharmacy would arrange a wheelchair to rent - even in our very small village.
|
In Brussels I often rent a wheelchir for my father from the red cross. I would suggest that they have a similar service in Amsterdam.

The red cross don't do that in Holland. I have searched a bit more and found a private company that hires them out - so you don't need to join a society which is what we normally do. The company is called Firma Vos & Zonen, 1e Oosterparkstraat 64-66
1091 HC Amsterdam. No Phone number. Oh and I just found this one too - no membership necessary, but you must have ID to hire things: Amsterdam Thuiszorg Centraal Magazijn, Gyroscoopweg 64, 1042 AC Amsterdam. They give a 0900 phone number, which you can olnly call from in Holland. The Welzorg place I said about in my first posting should also hire one to you with your ID (and maybe a deposit). |
