what's wrong with torremolinos
 

Is there a reason why any comments I read on this site about Torremolinos are negative

Because the posters feel negatively about the place.

I have the impression that too many posters feel it is "too touristy" "too commercial" for their taste. Personally, we were there last year late Sept. & loved it -- great beach which was very clean even at the end of the day when most US beaches are covered in litter, very different waves then one gets along East coast USA, standard modern hotel which you are not required to spend much time in, lots of restaurants, shops up on (I think) St. Michael's. <BR> <BR>But then we like Clearwater FL too & Hampton Beach NH & Myrtle Beach & Virginia Beach -- any beach that's good for walking & doesn't require a car when one wants to go to dinner. <BR> <BR>It depends upon what you want. Personally I have too many "major sites" to see to want to spend limited vacation time wandering through anyone's back door.

If you want a break from everything to just hang out at the beach, I guess it's OK. It's rather anonymous, you could be anywhere in the world because it's all hotels along the beach, not very pretty or picturesque. Personally, I didn't care for it, but I'm not a beach person.

It is twinned-towned with Glasgow. Need I say more?

Brian: what, you mean Torremolinos is also a regional powerhouse of architecture, museums, shops and nightclubs, with great people and fabulous scenery to boot? Sounds great.

If you are thinking of staying in Torremolinos why not go east (less than an hour) and stay in Nerja, which has a totally different feel. If, however, you have a time share in Torremolinos just plan a lot of day trips!

Me again. <BR>Ok, something more definitive.... <BR>1)most of those with questions are coming from outside Europe.I find it difficult to see why anyone would travel all that way to go to a beach resort similar to that in their own country so I usually post putting them off.You will hear more Spanish spoken in California, go to the beach there. <BR> <BR>2)there are far better places nearby <BR> <BR>3)Torremolinos is twice the price of Seville, Nerja etc <BR> <BR>Having said all this I suppose it could be used as a base to explore from except that the travel links are crap & it's expensive.(use Malaga or Nerja) <BR>I don't expect everyone to agree with my posts, I just guess at what I think peoples wants & needs are likely to be. <BR>Of course I could be wrong, and I can't be right about everyone.

Hi; Again, it depends on what you want. It is not famous for it's beaches, however we have spent several months in Torremolinos during the past 10 winters, traveling with Grand Circle, staying at the Bajondillo, (on the beach) and enjoyed the people, culture, traveling back and forth to both Fuengirola and Malaga on the electric train, a lot of things to do and see. Again, I suppose some folks cup of tea and some others poison. Personally we (like a lot of other repeaters) always enjoyed it. Have a good time.

Thanks to you all for your interest in my question . The reason I questioned the place is that after travelling for 15 hrs. I'd like a decent place to bunker down for a couple of days and get my head togeather, but it seem like either people thought it was a hellhole or they themselves just want to be a pompous ___hole . Anyways ,after exploring Torremolinos I will then go onto Granada, Ronda,Marbella etc.. Thanks again for your help....
