There was another travel show that used to be on - can't remember the name, but it was this young, kinda goofy, nerdy guy and he'd travel all over the US & Canada.

Meredith, FromAtlanta, and Kayb95,

I think you are all taking about the same show. It was called "Best of" and there were 2 hosts, Jill Cordis(sp?) and Mark Steinetz(?).

Meredith Jul 31st, 2004 05:15 PM

No, it's not "Best Of" that I'm thinking of, either! "Best Of" is on the Food Network, and it's still on pretty frequently.

The girl in the show I'm thinking of has slightly longer than shoulder-length, dark brown hair. She's probably in her 30s (or at least, she was at the time I saw her show). I'm thinking *maybe* the show was called Great Escapes, but I'm not sure...

When I see Samantha Brown, that incredibly upbeat young woman, enter another hotel, I have started feeling embarrassed to watch her.

The script calls for this unfailingly pleasant and attractive lady to go into rhapsodies over the toilet as if it were a totally new experience. Next comes the furniture, the other items of decor, the color scheme, and more. Surely, she must get as tired of all this play-acting as I am watching her.

Hotel by hotel, resort after resort, all bring out the same cooing and ooohs and ahhhs. If this program had any connection with reality, we would surely run into dripping faucets, cold food from slow room service, unmade or sloppy beds, and a cockroach or two.

But NO, Samantha plows ahead, making coy facial expressions, a toss of her head, flawlessly attired, with never a missing or delayed bag to be experienced. This is reality? What do we learn? How many comps can one channel take?

While I am venting, I should say I have totally rejected all this Las Vegas card playing. Pudgy, unshaven, toad-like men sitting expressionless around a green baize table, hiding their lack of any intelligence in their eyes behind dark glasses or under the brim of a black hat.

What, I ask, has all this immobility got to do with learning anything about travel?

Kayb95 Jul 31st, 2004 07:20 PM

I finally remembered the name of the show I was thinking about! It was called "The Tourist" with Rick Bronson. www.thetouristonline.com

Meredith,
I am now convinced that you and I are thinking about the same show... but then I got it confused with "Best Of" because 1)It is kind of similar and 2) I watched those shows around the same time.
So now we are BOTH going crazy over this! - But I am almost positive I know what you are talking about!!

Way too many repeats!

francophile03 Jul 31st, 2004 08:22 PM

Looks like poker is everywhere nowadays!

FromAtlanta Jul 31st, 2004 08:44 PM

Not to mention the TC OBSESSION with demonized (haunted) places ... at least I can watch that for where NOT to go ;)

Kayb95 Aug 1st, 2004 05:20 PM

Actually, I think they only have two or three "haunted" shows. They just keep repeating them. :)

TravelingSue Aug 1st, 2004 07:04 PM

This thread should be e-mailed to them...

That is a good idea!
