What's the most outrageous price you've ever seen?
Mine has to be the 50cl Evian for 7€ in our room at the Zürich Marriott.

Minibars - I've seen pretty ridiculous things there, and I fail to register these anymore.
Water at the 7-11 in Copenhagen was absurdly priced beyond all reason, although I don't recall how much now. |
What kind of water? We like Haralds Kilde Vand for about 30¢ a liter carton.

Prices of Hotel/Motel rooms in the USA. Roaches for 100$ a night...
|
33 euros for a burger at Harry's in Venice.

For what? ((I)) |
Before the wall came down, the call from the DDR was so high from a hotel room that I blocked it out of my mind- can't remember. But we ended up going to the boarded/gated subways- and used a pay phone there which didn't want to accept the different and less valued coinage. But we got it to work- with one person throwing and the other using the phone.
Our local audience clapped. The phone "out" fee was more than the lodging per day for the room. |
Ira, obviously it's a general question...
|
probably a small coke at a cafe in Paris. The very small glass, about 6" tall about 3" in diameter was about 8 euro.
|
Read the menu first and don't go there, there are so many alternatives, no need to encourage these guys! You've got a choice in Paris.
|
Waaay back when, on a trip on which my luggage was lost, I paid something like $20 for a toothbrush in Copenhagen.
|
Not seen but heard - business associate not used to traevling called home a "few" times from hotel - no calling card, just picled up and dialed. NY to Oz. Think that her telephone bill at te end of week was US$1,500 for telephone

$14 for a cup of carrot soup at Harrod's in London.
|
Well, perhpas not the MOSt ridiculous but 1500 pounds for a pair of shoes at Harrod's...obviously to go along with the soup!
|
Not in Europe, but a very small silk flower (just one) to resemble an orchid in a very cheap terracotta bowl in a window of a store in St. Helena, CA. The price was $350.00. At target it probably would have been $5.95..although imagine the orchid would have not been made out of silk.
I had taken friends from Italy to St Helena and they still talk about that flower, LOL. |
