What's the latest with Meridiana Airlines

I've read a few posts that have said that Meridiana Airlines is not that dependable as well as maybe 1 that said it was fine. Has anyone flown on them lately and if so what is your opinion, please. How reliable are they re their scheduled departures, etc. Any chance of going belly up like I read Volare did?

Thanks you in advance.

I have read news stories in the Italian press that their departures are, at times, significantly delayed. I don't know what their on-time record is, however.

As far as financial solvency, I have not seen their financial statements. There is always the chance that they could go belly up, like Volare. This is the reality in today's market. I have not read any reports that they are in financial difficulty (but neither had I seen any such reports about Volare until very near the end of the line).

If you can get a good fare from Meridiana, I personally would be tempted to take it, especially if the booking were in the relatively near future (spring or summer 2005).

I see, for example, that Meridiana now offers Roma Fiumicino to Cagliari for 49 Euros (plus taxes and surcharges), much less than Alitalia (which had a monopoly on this very important route until very recently).
