Hi again,<BR><BR>We are staying at the Ibis Paris Porte De Chilchy hotel (163 bis, avenue de Clichy Paris 75017). We will be arriving at the Charles De Gaulle airport, and wanted to know whats the best (and economical) way to get to the hotel from the airport ? <BR><BR>We arrive early morning and want to make the most of our first day there, so we want to make sure we get to the hotel asap, dump our stuff and head out immediately !<BR><BR>I'm assuming taxis will be pretty expensive, is there any other form of transport from the airport ?<BR><BR>Thanks in advance !<BR>

Hi Kau,<BR><BR>I'm not familiar with your hotel, but we stay in the Latin Quarter and take the RER train directly to the nearest station to our hotel (St. Michel) and just walk the few blocks. Of course, we also take only carry on luggage.<BR><BR>I would suspect that would be the easiest and most economical route for you, as well (provided you don't have too much luggage). I would advise studying a map to see which stop you would need. It was pretty easy for us to figure out on our own.<BR><BR>Someone else might have a better alternative, too. Good luck.<BR>

Several shuttle van lines serve the airports in Paris. I have used them in the past, and found them marginally satisfactory. They are cheaper than a taxi, depending on how many of you there are, but more expensive than the RER and the Metro.<BR><BR>I think if you do some scanning on this forum with the topic &quot;paris airport shuttle&quot; you might turn up old posts on this subject because in months past the issue has been beaten to death. <BR><BR>There is also a Roissy bus to the area round the opera house. And there is the RER which gets you to the city center, but to get to the way out 17th, you would have to switch to the Metro. Hiking Metro and REr stations with a load of luggage is not my idea of fun. <BR>Those stations feature lots of steps, few escalators, long corridors, and crowded trains.<BR><BR>Actually your question is something of a polar opposite request. The quickest way, taxi, is the most expensive. The cheapest is the worst, in my opinion.<BR><BR>If you have only one rolling carryon piece of luggage, or if you are young and vigorous, the RER/Metro combination will do the job, but it is far from being the best on my scale of values.<BR><BR>I suppose if best = least money, then the public transportation route is the best.<BR><BR><BR>

We're going to Paris later this month, and I have perused this board concerning the same subject. I've weighed all the pros &amp; cons and decided to take a Taxi. Arriving after an all-night flight, I just don't want to fool around with having to wait for metro/shuttle/bus service. I feel it's worth the extra few $$$.

I agree that in your case, taxi is probably the easiest option, especially as your hotel is on the north-west perimeter of Paris, and therefore fairly easy to access from CDG (i.e. the taxi won't need to cross the whole of Paris - and get snarled up in traffic). <BR><BR>If you would prefer the public transport option, then get the Air France coach from the airport (picks up at every terminal) to Porte Maillot/Palais des Congr&egrave;s, and from Porte Maillot take the RER line C (yellow on the transport maps) to Porte de Clichy. That way you will only have to change once.

Unfortunately, the Porte de Clichy is not an easy trip via the metro or the RER. The &quot;easiest&quot; route would be to take the RER B from CDG to St. Michel, then transfer to the RER C to the Porte de Clichy. However, this route is very indirect, and the RER C can be somewhat confusing as there are several branches.<BR><BR>A more direct route would involve a transfer from the RER B to the metro at the Gare du Nord. However, you would then have to change metro trains 2 more times. Depending on how much luggage you have, carrying it up and down the stairs in the metro stations can be a real drag.<BR><BR>Perhaps this explains why everyone is suggesting taking a taxi. By the way, I agree: a taxi is the best bet. I am guessing that it will probably cost about $35.

Thanks all. I think a taxi is probably the best option. <BR><BR>Another silly question - in Paris, how many people fit in a taxi ? We are 4 adults with minimal luggage, would they let us all into one taxi ?<BR><BR>Thanks for the info, folks !

I think hanl's solution is the best if you don't take a taxi or one of those private vans.<BR><BR>I've never taken a taxi with that many adults+luggage, but the many posts on here comment on the problems or not with that many. Regular size taxis won't take you, but some larger vans probably will and you may have to wait a bit for one at the taxi stand, but not too long. Frankly, even if you had to take two cabs, I would still do that if I were you as that isn't a bad cost split between two people for the convenience and because you said you wanted the fastest method--it would be barely only slightly over cost of public transportation even then.
