What's the best way to get to Positano?
We will be travelling from Rome to Positano in July. I read that there are buses that will take you into Positano from the rail station, but it seems like there are varying views on this. I don't plan to rent a car. Also, is it better to book a rail ticket online through trenitalia or buy the tickets there?

You can take the EUROSTAR from Rome to Naples, then arrange a private driver to pick you up at Naples and take you to Positano ( about an hour and a half). Or, you can take the local train from Naples to Sorrento, then take the boat from Marina Grande in Sorrento to Positano.

Hi Rabbit - The nearest railway stations are Sorrento (Circumvesuviana) and Salerno (FS).
From Sorrento you can reach Positano by SITA bus (45 mins). From Salerno the best way to Positano is by ferry (70 mins - € 6). (By bus it takes much longer - 2 hrs +). A budget alternative in July is the DIRECT daily bus service (- operator - Marozzi). It leaves Roma Tiburtina station at 07.00, arriving Positano about 11.30. Fare: approx 20. www.marozzivt.it Hope this helps ... Steve |
Dear Weadles and Steve,
Thank you for your helpful suggestions. If I chose to get a driver from Naples, do you have any recommendations? How much does it generally cost? -Audrey |
Audrey - The going rate for Naples-Positano is € 100 - give or take.
It's best to pre-book with one of the local limo services. The following have all been recommended here: - Positano-based www.positanocarservice.com www.flaviogioia.com www.limocarservice.net www.benvenutolimos.com - Sorrento-based www.tourofitaly.com www.francescomarrapese.com www.cuomonet.it Hope this helps ...
