How about barging on one of the canals in France? I haven't been, but have been doing lots of reading on it, and got a lot of input from others here when I posted about it. You rent a "barge", which is actually a houseboat, cruise down the canal at about 4mph, stop along the way, tie up to the banks, and ride bikes, eat, shop, see the sights... The barges are self-drive (or you can pay extra and have a captain, who exits at night). There are many locks along the way. I'm guessing your boys would love such an experience. You can find several websites on renting barges. The best I've found so far is leboat.com I emailed Debbie and she sent me several very informative brochures.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We flew into Billund, Denmark and took a bus to Vejle to stay at a very nice hotel close to walking distance to everything you would need. We took bus the next day to Legoland which my kids (especially the younger one) really enjoyed. Even as adults, it was amazing to see all of the legomodels and the rides were pretty tame but we all could go on them. We took trains down to Aero, a wonderful island with gingerbread type houses, beautiful area to bike ride and delicious ice cream (do you sense a theme here?). We then took train north to Copenhagen where we stayed for about 5 days. I loved that city as well. We flew to Stockholm and then boat to Helsinki. Train, planes and buses were very easy to navigate and we always felt safe. If you need anymore info, feel free to email. Good luck. I wish we could go back soon.
