Pizzeria Sorbillo on via Tribunali was awesome. Classic stuff.

Actually, some of the best traditional pizza we've had has been in Provence and in Nice. Take a look; I swear you can practically smell this photo...

Our friends, who are Naples natives, always take us to Pizzeria Mattozzi for pizza. We've taken other Americans there as well. A very small place, but always very good. My favorite is the pizza with buffalo mozzarella and the small tomatoes grown on Vesuvio.

Pizzeria Mattozzi
Via Filangieri 16 Napoli
Tel.081/416378
Chiusura: domenica a pranzo - agosto
Lunedì mi sono recato per la seconda volta presso questa pizzeria.

We ate at Sorbillo last week on Tribunali in Naples and second the faborable comments above--we thought it was the best pizza we have ever eaten--particularly the pesto. We also liked Di Matteo.

Don't have time to read this now, so now I'll be able to find it tomorrow!

I am glad that people like Sorbillo. I wish I were there now, with an espresso at Caffe Mexico after. And a sfogliatelle or six.

The older posts about pizza in Italy being bad and American pizza being good made me laugh.

There's a reason it tastest different--it's a completely different animal. Here in the USA the tendency is to make the crust much thicker and overdo it bigtime with the toppings. If that's what you're used to, you won't like pizza in Italy.

This reminds me of people who grew up eating Spaghetti-o's out of a can, then go to Italy and thinkg the past there is no good.

I go on to suggest Ettore in Via Santa Lucia, and ask for "favolosa"

Just returned from Italy. The pizza in Naples was a big let down.
It tasted like ragu sauce was poured on the crust and the cheese was hardly cooked.

The best pizza I had in Naples was at the train station. Pizza on the street and from local food shops was not any pizza I would recommend.

DiMatteo and Presidente both on Via Tribunali were our favorites during our week in Naples earlier this year.

I too feel it is not a valid exercise to compare pizza from Naples or anyplace in Italy with that from the U.S. In my opinion they are two very different preparations.
