What's the best Location for Copenhagen Hotel?
 

Have done search for prior info on this forum and found responses for inexpensive hotels only. <BR> <BR>What is the best location for selecting a Copenhagen hotel -- moderate price range, stay for 1 or 2 nights, in late July/early Aug 2001. <BR> <BR>Radison SAS says it'w within walking distance of Tivoli (spelling ? sorry) but has free shuttle to "old town". Is there a better area in Copenhagen for accessing the museums and historic sites? <BR> <BR>Thanks

I have recommended it before and will do it again. The Danmark is a very well-located moderate-priced hotel in Copenhagen. Just around the corner from the National Museum, a couple blocks to Tivoli and the Stroget (pedestrian shopping street) Bus stop practically in front of the place or walk a couple blocks to the Radhuspladsen where the main bus transfer area is located. About $135 a night for a twin room with excellent breakfast included and ensuite bath.

We stayed at the Sophie Amalie near Nyhavn and thought it great. We were in close proximity to plenty of excellent restaurants and cafes, and were able to walk everywhere, including Stroget and Tivoli.

Found the Palace Hotel to be ideal. The beginning of Stroget is just around the corner, Tivoli and the museums a few blocks away, as is the main train station and bus stop for the airport. The town hall square is in front of the hotel, just across the road.

Hi, MHS <BR>I agree with Anna. Hotel Denmark is just superb. On my weekend trip in august, though, their internet reservation had fucked up, but they admitted their mistake and gave me a nice hotel room nearby. So, be confident that you have a confirmation, and order early.. <BR>Have a nice Copenhagen stay. <BR>Bjorn, Norway

Avoid the area behind the railway station (other side from Tivoli) There are some cheap deals there but the neighbourhood is dubious...I had my luggage stolen from the hotel's left luggage store which was visible to those on the street....and there were quite a few drunks and down and outs on the street! Having said that, I think you will enjoy the city which is manageable and attractive especially in the areas recommended in these replies.

Isabella, thanks for the tip -- having had my suitcase stolen from a nice hotel in a nice area of Paris, certainly do NOT want to go through that again! Especially with our joining a cruise the following day. Please, don't be shy -- would you name the hotel for us? Did they help you in any way? (Ours in Paris didn't/haven't other than give rather confusing directions to local police station.)

I agree with Ilisa about the Sophie Amalie near Nyhavn. It's a very nice, very comfortable hotel, and definitely in the moderate price range. I loved being just two blocks from Nyhavn, since I love boats and all things seafaring. It is incredibly picturesque, and a great place for walking and people-watching and eating.

Sorry....just can't remember the name of the hotel. No, they did not help at all as the luggage had been left there at my own risk(apparantly) They pointed out that there was a police station in the railway complex so I went and reported it there but it was only for my insurance claim especially as I had to catch my plane home to Sydney that day!

MHS, <BR>Contact the Danish Tourist Board in New York and ask for their hotel book. It lists hotels, has a map for locations in Copenhagen, and lists prices. It is an excellent reference and best of all it is free. <BR>Have a wonderful trip.

Stayed at the Hotel Danmark in December. Very clean, good breakfast and great location for walking to Stroget & Tivoli. We did hear many revelers as they were returning from Tivoli at night, but it wasn't bad. Saturday night was the loudest. Sunday night was much quieter. Front desk personnel were very helpful.
