What's the best bargain airfare website for trips to Europe?

To those of you who have bought through Hotwire or Priceline. Do you invariably end up with really bad times for your flights and 5 or 6 hour layovers? Has anyone purchased through these sites and had reasonable flight times? I have always avoided them on European flights because it could force the use of an extra day of vacation time in order to meet the departure time.
