Whats the best?
 

What is the best place to visit for a new divorcee? I have never traveled outside the States and will probably take my 13 year old grandaughter as a companion. Would like tips on what would appeal to a middle age woman and teen. Thanks for any advice.

To see the age of Caesar? or Hitler? or Ferdinand and Isabella? If I were to take a 13 year old girl to Europe and it was the first time for both of us, I think I would choose England. London and maybe a couple of days in Bath. I would book a decent hotel in the thick of things, get reservations for a couple of plays, get guide books and sit together and make lists of what each of us would want to see the most. <BR>Take her to tea at the Orangerie near Kensington Palace. <BR>Watch the Changing of the Guard.<BR>If you or your granddaughter are readers, maybe there is a favorite story that takes place in London that you two could visit and say,&quot;This is the place!&quot;<BR>That is what I would like to do with a grandcild one day:)

If your granddaughter doesn't have a particular place she's dying to visit, London is a great idea. You don't have to worry about language, the public transportation is not only wonderful but also fun, there is music, theatre, musicals; the shopping is fun, there is plenty of understandable history, and on and on. Don't miss the Museum of London, the London Eye, a boat trip, the British Museum, and Madame Tussaud's - just for starters!

London would be a good choice. I would also choose Rome. You can rent a central hotel and walk to many historical sites and Basilica's , Pantheon, Fountain of Trevi, Spanish Steps, St Peters and the Sistine Chapel. Take a bus to the Colosseum. What wonderful experiences for the two of you to share!

Hi Bambi,<BR> London is a good idea, especially if your granddaughter likes Harry potter.<BR> My own preference is to leave the child at home and go to Paris.
