Im very excited to visit the Louvre and Im kow they arent open on Tuesdays, so its either on monday or weds?????What other lines might i expect on this holiday or in general and what can i do to aviod them?

Thanks,

You can count on the large crowds, but you will find just about everything open on May 8th except for banks, post offices and various administrative offices.

We found ourselves in Paris on 8 May back in 1995 - the 50th anniversary of the end of the war. We had no idea before we went!

But we found it was no inconvenience. What was great about it, in fact, was that we'd coincidentally planned to go to Pere Lachaise that day, and there were several ceremonies, in the area where there are memorial statues, including one for Jews killed by the Nazis. Very moving and a powerful memory.

Leaders throughout the world were in town that week, including the Clintons. We were told they were staying at the Ritz, and we went in and had cocktails at the Hemingway Bar, but no sign of Bill.

Several days later Chirac was elected President, and hundreds of thousands of people poured out into the streets in what seemed like a fairly spontaneous celebration throughout the city. It was an exciting time to be in Paris - that may be redundant - it was more exciting than usual!

Thanks for the motivating May 8 tirp you took. I hope that I will have an amazing time like yourself.

Im not that big into arts, but love to still look through museums, so do any of you think I need to make reservations for tours, etc, or can I wing it on my own?
