What's it like to drive a rental car from Salsburg to Prague?
We're thinking of driving a rental car from Salzburg, Austria to Prague and wonder what the roads, signage, traffic, etc. might be like on a Sunday in August. Any suggestions? Where is the best place to drop a rental car off in Prague that would be easy to find? Thanks!

We have done that drive. We did do an overnight in Cesky Krumlov. Roads and signage were fine. We had no problems. I dropped the car off in Prague. Studied a map of Prague and found the rental agency very easy. But, it depends on the location of the drop off. Driving in the city center can be difficult. I'd go north on the German B20. Very little traffic before Sunday afternoon or Austrian B156 to Braunau. The B156 is more scenic, but may be more difficult to pass with quite a few slower cars. If you were unable to fill up gas in Salzburg, there's a number of very cheap gas stations there. It will only get more expensive from there on.
Driving is no issue, both are good roads. On the German A3, go north to Deggendorf, STAY on B11 to Bay. Eisenstein, there's a shorter road, but it's under construction.
From there North on 27. This road has a few hairpin bends, which are poorly marked and where you should be careful. Also in the Boh. Forest, the road has no guarding rails even in dangerous places. Careful at night! There's a number of potholes, comparable to US roads and worse. Max speed is 90kph
Enter freeway 5 and drive to Prague, nothing special from there, but you'll need a toll sticker for that.

Shirley; I looked at kayak.com and you will pay close to $500 for a one way, one day rental. Drop charge just under $200. Plus the drive from Salzburg to Prague is about five hours. Our drive to Prague from Salzburg was with a car rented in Vienna and at that time there was no drop off fee. If money is no problem, there are some great stops north of Salzburg. Passau, Ceske Budejovice and Cesky Krumlov. But to visits these towns you would need one night in C.B. or C.K. Richard

As I said on your other thread about driving from Salzburg to Prague - drop at the Prague airport. You can't miss it. Other areas in Prague to drop the car will depend on who you are renting from.

What's Krumnau, may I ask? If you mean Cesky Krumlov then please call it that instead of some bastardised german expresion.
It you want to stop in CESKY KRUMLOV, then go straight down the motorway to LInz, then road to Ceske Budejovice, past the border at Kaplice, turn off to CESKY KRUMLOV.
Should not take more than 2 hours.
