What's Happening in Madrid in October 2012?
Hi All,
I ask because, now that I have finished my trip report from this October, I am planning a trip to Spain for next year.
I was looking at three hotels in Madrid and finally decided on one. On Nov 1, it was 505E w/bkfst. When I went to book it on 11/12 it had gone to 558E + 15E pp for bkfst.
Default to Plan B. This had been 525E + 10E pp for bkfst. It was now 610E + 11E pp.
Plan C, which I booked, showed prices as follows: Fri 90E, Sat 90E, Sun 110E, Mon 140E + 12E pp for bkfst.
I find it interesting that the rate for Mon, 12/15 is so much higher than for Friday 12/12.
Any suggestions?

Sorry, this is for the coming year; there are other trade shows in addition to these, I believe:

You'll find trade shows usually only affect rated hotels. If you go for hostals (small private hotels, often just as pleasant and better value), they tend to have more steady prices, as they don't get block-booked by trade fair organisers. I know it's too late for you, but just for the future.

The 12th of October is a national holiday, it falls on a Friday, so I guess the hotels are anticipating more national tourists. It is always cheaper to travel the previous or the following weekend.
Anyway, weekends (friday and saturday) are always far, far cheaper that weekdays, no matter if there is a trade fair or not. There are a couple of 4-stars near my home where the rates go down considerably on weekends, no matter the month.
Bye, Cova

I arrived in Madrid. On Oct. 12 this year.......there was a big military parade. some streets were closed for traffic , tons of people on the streets ..really festive.
You might wish to arrive either a day before or after.
