Whats a good play to see?
 

We will be in London on April 23. I have to say I have never been to the Theater & I don't have a clue of what to see. Any suggestions would be great. I like something funny and not too deep.

I'm not sure I will like the Theater, but I hate not see at least one play whle in London.

Just go to the half-price/cheap ticket line at Leicester Square and see what's playing and choose something that looks good, if you don't have a particular play in mind.

If you want something funny and not too deep, I 'd recommend Mamma Mia. It's great light entertainment.

I agree with Marcy. You will really enjoy Mamma Mia. My favorite light musical.

If you like humor, try the Reduced Shakespeare Company's productions. We saw the Complete Works of Shakespeare and just laughed our heads off. It's 3 guys spoofing Shakespeare. You do need to know some of the major works to get the humor, but a lot of American allegories are also used.

Another vote for Mamma Mia!

I would never see "Mama Mia" or "The Reduced Shakespeare Company" in London. You can see them in the US if you live in or near a major city.

When in London I try to see shows that are specifically British and have no chance of crossing the Atlantic. Because everyone else runs to get tickets for musicals like "Mama Mia", there are usually plenty of tickets for shows I like at the half price ticket booth.

Las Vegas has a permanent production of Mamma Mia for those who can't make it to London. Lauren, I also see the shows that won't cross the Atlantic. I have seen some really good plays over the years. One of my favorites from a couple of years ago - The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband. Very funny play.

Take a chance at the half price booth, but do a bit of homework ahead of time to understand what each show is about! No sense trying to figur it out when you're in line!
Hamlet is a bit heavy, but starts on the 17th of april at the old vic.
Stones is his pockets is a two man show-with about 12 characters. It's quite funny! The actors jump from one character to the next with different voices and mannerisms.
Phantom of the opera, Les Miserables, Chicago, Anything Goes, and Joseph and the Amazing Tech Dreamcoat are all BIG production musicals. Great for an introduction to threatre.
mamma Mia, Tonight's the Night, Stomp and others (? help) are more lite (light) entertainment than LONDON THEATRE in my opinion. A good night out? Yes, but reach a bit!
I fI were taking someone to the threatre for the first time I'd try a musical! Good luck!

For someone who's not been to theatre and not sure he/she'll like it, I, too, would recommend light musical.

And as for Mamma Mia being played in States, I saw it in London and again here in Pgh., and the London performance was much better; a bit more slapstick and gratuitous sexual gestures here.
