March 2004, Lufthansa, Portland, OR to Frankfurt, non-stop, $250 plus tax.
They were just launching their service and I'm an employee of the city's visitors bureau. It's still the only non-stop to Europe that we have in Portland. All your fares sound great, but I think it's more impressive to get a cheap fare from the West coast to Europe because we always have to pay a hefty supplement on top of the deals the rest of you get! We flew Ryan Air from Frankfurt to Rome and it was a nightmare, despite costing something like 5 euros plus tax. |
I was recently in Ireland and decided to extend my trip by a couple of days if it didn't cost too much. All American Airlines charged me was a $30 change fee. I was shocked (and delighted) by this -- is this normal?

$200 r/t NY to London on B.A., early 2002. They were trying to get people to start flying again in the wake of 9/11.

I think it was in 1997 - Southwest Airlines was offering a special rate of $17.76 each way wherever they flew direct. The clincher though, was that this was only valid for travel on the 4th of July. I had read about it in the paper the day of the sale and called them promptly at 6pm when the sale started. I asked for whatever they had available from Kansas City with an early morning departure and late return (since all travel had to be done on that day!). We decided on San Francisco since we had never been there. We arrived in San Fran about 11:30am, picked up a convertible and drove up the coast as far as Point Reyes then back to San Fran. We had dinner at a nice restaurant on Pier 39, watched the fireworks over the bay, then headed back to the airport for our 11:59pm flight home. It is one of our favorite trips because we saw so much in only 12 hours!

I had a $600 ticket to Buenos Aires in August 2003. My departure date and the massive NY power failure ocurred the same day. Flight was cancelled that night, and the next night as well.
I callled AA FF desk and told them I HAD to get to BA, and would be willing to fly anywhere and pay a reasonable premium. The lovely lady got me an itinerary consisting of Hartford, CT to North Carolina, to Dallas, to Miami, to Buenos Aires. No additional charge. When I arrived at the airport I discovered it was all FIRST CLASS. Including the beds on the Miami - Bs As leg. I spent a lot of time traveling, but never better! |
I got RT tickets from Philly to Aruba on US Air for my honeymoon last year for $197 each -- a week before that, the rate had been $450! Even better, my husband and I were separated on the way home, and they took pity on the poor newlyweds and gave us a $200 voucher. :)

Last month I purchased air for our trip to Maroma for November. I was checking all the airlines as I wanted non stop to cancun. I thought the prices were sky high...
I found non stop from jfk to cancun on American. So just out of curiousity, I checked the price for first and it was LOWER than coach. It was a mistake on AA's website...so I got 2 first class rt for $2000.00! I know it sounds like a lot but coach was at the time 2400.00. I think I was the only one that got that price because we have the only 2 seats in first so far. |
AA had a computer glitch one afternoon, and I got two RT tickets from Newark to Honolulu for $145.91 each.
The evening before my flight I went into their site to print out my boarding passes when I got a computer error saying that I needed an e-ticket in order to print out a boarding pass. Panic set in because I thought I did have e-tickets, with my e-mail confirmation. I called AA and was put on hold for about 20 minutes. After the wait, the agent told me he was going to have to send me a new e-mail confirmation, and when I got it, I could then download my boarding passes. I received the e-mail and downloaded the passes, and everything was OK. The flight back home (first leg Honolulu to Chicago) we got upgraded to First Class because the flight was full and we agreed to standby. When I got home (last Tuesday) and checking thru the mail, there was a voucher from AA for $291.82, the price of the two RT tickets. The only thing I can figure out is somehow they cancelled my flights and sent me the voucher, then put me back on the flights when I called about the boarding passes. Go figure. Bottom line, my trip to Hawaii was free. This is a true story <b>except for the first class upgrade.</b> I made that portion up. ((a)) ((b)) |
Budman, you are one lucky duck, even without the first class upgrade!

About 5-6 years ago got one free ticket when second one purchased to Turkey via Lufthansa. Also got a free wrist watch, quite a good one too, when I sent in a copy of my ticket. Amazing deal at the time.

Flew from PHL to Columbus, OH last week. Used FF miles for my ticket and purchased ticket for hubby for $300. Took a bump on the return, waited 2 hours, got 2 free tickets. So for $300 we got 4 flights.

United Airlines, March 2000.
Round trip flight in First Class for $500 |
Round trip March 2004. DFW to London via BA for about $330. They trip was priced per leg, outgoing was about $100 even, return $129 I believe and tax another $100. The best part was that I learned about the fare from this site. If memory serves the sale was in the fall advertised as $100 each way. Hope to find it again this autumn.

My trip on Air Force One at taxpayer's (myself included) expense. Best service in the air, bar none, folks.
|
In 2002 I put I split 60,000 miles and put 30k toward 2 rt non-stop tickets from dfw to cdg. I had to add only $195.00 for each ticket. The total 5 days in Paris with meals and a 3 star hotel costs only $1500. for 2.

I got the absolute greatest deal EVER last year. I purchased two tickets from Baltimore to Honolulu on American Airlines for the fantastic price of $283.00 each. That was great enough, but when we got to the Honolulu airport to come home, we were asked if we would volunteer to get bumped for a flight which was leaving and hour and a half later than our booked flight. For this, we received vouchers for $300.00 each. That meant that the cost of those tickets turned out to be -$17.00 each, meaning that they paid us $17.00 each for a round trip flight to Honolulu. We just returned from Honolulu on June 8, using our vouchers.

If considering pay fares, I got non-stop Dallas to Paris for $400 in July! |
Mine was a $98.00 round trip fare from ATL to SFO last month. I have a $350.00 round trip fare to Honolulu in August.
|
Two seats at $438 each to Nagoya, Japan from Atlanta, Georgia. Purchased one week in advance!
|
I got the $99 one way to London on BA for husband and I from Atl., about $550 for two. But I think the best was to Maui from Atl. $307 incldg tax. My oldest son and I snagged it and had a wonderful spur of the moment trip to visit other son. a great cheap family get together.

The least I have paid to get to London from Iceland was around 4 pounds Sterling. A special offer from Iceland Express.
