London in 1981. I can still feel my awe and wonder at seeing the city, of which I had dreamed, for so long! My sister said I wrote a card which said "I am finally standing in London.. so excited that I want to scream"
Since thenI have been to many other European cities and still feel similar emotions, but nothing is like the first time!

Outside of an airport in a city it would be Paris and it was a great first euro city for my wife and I.

Amsterdam. To be honest, I was not at all impressed. The city was dirty and reminded me of some of the third world countries I've visited.

A day or two would have been plenty. I much preferred Alkmaar.

1994 London.

One of the first things I remember was stepping out onto the street and nearly getting run over... I forgot that the traffic was coming from the other direction! :D

Rome,15 years ago. I remember driving past the Colosseum in the taxi on the way to our hotel and being absolutely blown away. Couldnt believe you could be so close to all those magnificent sites. Then trying to fit everything into a photo! After a few "teething" problems,it was our first big trip,my husband and I were hooked. We caught the travel bug and havent stopped since!

Rome - exactly 10 years ago. I fell in love with Rome the minute I walked out of Termini station and still love it for everything that is Rome - the incredible history and sites, churches around every corner, madness of the streets with mopeds and cars - and the lively outgoing Italians. And of course the food and gelato! I have been back 6 times and am longing to be there right now!

In Great Britain, London in 1957;
in Europe, Paris in 1963. This is a distinction upon which my English mother would insist. (No hanging participles!)

A week in London, June 2003. Shirtsleeve weather all week. No rain, cloudless skys and a wonderful experience. This started us on frequent tours to Europe. And, these haven't all been land tours. We thoroughly enjoyed a Prague to Budapest river cruise on the Danube.
