What was the Best & Worst Paris Hotel you have ever stayed in

The Folksone and le Tourville tied for worst. The Plaza Athenee was the best.

The worst hotel I've stayed in was Hotel Tilsitt on Rue Brey in the 17th dist. Rooms are very tiny and there is no ceiling above the toilet. There are only wooden slats and we even noticed a person working above it once. We had already paid for the room so we just put up with it and hoped that it didn't occur again-it didn't.

The best hotel was Hotel du Rond Point de Longchamp. It's a small hotel but the location and view of the Eiffel Tower was just perfect.
Worst:
Hotel Saint-Andre-des-Arts, Rue Saint-Andre-des-Arts, 6th
But that was years ago when I was a poor student.

Close runner-up:
Hotel de Seine, Rue de Seine, 6th
Hotel Acacias Saint-Germain, Rue de Rennes, 6th

Best (so far): Royal Monceau, Avenue Hoche, 8th
Close runner-up: Relais Christine, Rue Christine, 6th
Best as far as plushness hands down Le Bristol.

Worstis also Le Bristol - due to the poor cost/benefit analysis...may be plush but at $850 a night with $25 for breakfast it is not worth it.

Looks like hotel de seiene is winnig as worst no clear winner for best

It would be more useful if people would say why a hotel was the worst. For example, the Hotel de Seine. What made it so bad?

What a drag about Hotel de Seine. During recent visit, I scoped out area hotels for my next stay and identified Hotel de Seine as the best in the area for the price. It had a nice lobby, decent rooms, great location and seemed much nicer than where I was staying (Deux Continents on Rue Jacob) for the same price. What gives?

Ursula Jul 24th, 2002 06:16 AM

OK, maybe I should add that I stayed at the Hotel de Seine quite a while ago.

It may have gone under renovation since. I remember that the room had a particularly dirty and old rug and the reception staff wasn't particularly friendly. Might have changed in the meantime, as well.
But I felt also bothered with the street noise. Quite busy with yelling pedestrians during the night.
OK, I agree, that's not the hotel's mistake, but since then, I prefer to stay on a more quiet street with no restaurants, bars, etc. in its close neighbourhood in the southern part of Saint-Germain which is also less touristy.
As for the the Saint-Andre-des-Arts, it's still a place I would avoid, mainly because of the street noise and it's also very sound-conducting inside. ;o)
I'd probably prefer the Hotel du Lys on Rue Serpente, if I was looking for such a budget place now.

Another thumbs up for du Lys--a super little budget place in a quiet location but very near lots of activity! NB, no elevator!

The worst : the EUGINE ( SOMETHING) I had to sleep in my coat because there were no x-tra blankets; I checked out the next day at 6am after hearing somone singing ouside my window all night ; plus it was in what seemed at the time to be in a seedy area.
The best: the Lancaster the best hotel I've ever stayed at anywhere bar none.I still dream about it.

Ursula Jul 24th, 2002 07:30 AM

Sherri: Eugenie is on Rue Saint-Andre-des-Arts, right?
Hm... yes, the singing and yelling people have been there 20 years ago and will be there in 20 years just as well.

Best: Hotel Deux Continents on rue Jacob (1994).

Worst: Hotel Le Petit Trianon, near rue de Buci (1998). (The room I had in this hotel was the worst I've had anywhere in Europe.)

Does anyone have a website for the Hotel du Lys - I'd like to bookmark it for the future.

Thanks.

Sue Jul 24th, 2002 10:12 AM

Du Lys does not have website or do email, as far as I know.

Best for me Hotel Danube. Love the street, Francois and Severin were great. Charming room, excellent overall value Worst Le Meridien just because of no charm. Rude staff, nondesribte neighborhood. PJ

Worst was the Best Western Jardin de Cluny. The hotel was O.K. but it was August and w//o a//c we had to sleep with the windows open. There was a bar below and the noise went on until 3 a.m. My husband got rundown and ill from lack of sleep [now we travel with a noise machine]. One couple was checking out early due to the noise. We should have moved to a room in the rear. The best was the Royal Monceau [a special no longer offered by Air France.

thoroughly enjoyed La Terrasse - foot of Montmartre - handy for Metro - cheap restaurants nearby - excellent substantial breakfast buffet (and you can smuggle out rolls and ham for lunch) - pleasant staff - speak English - beautiful rooftop restaurant with panoramic view of Paris skyline

Stayed at Hotel deSeine in '98. My travel journal reminds me that the room was somewhat shabby, but bathroom was great. Terrific location. If price is still good - I would consider it.

Going to Paris in fall. Need nice, clean, (quiet seems to be good thing) AND inexpensive. When says good for "budget", how much are we talking?
