Hi Vicki, when my neice was selling magazines, I bought National Geographic Traveler (like a lot), Travel Holiday, and Arthur Frommers Budget Travel.
All three have way tooooo many travel adverts IMO.
NGT has more info on destinations, and Frommers has more money saving tips and package vactions. Travel Holiday has a sort of Conde Nast type format.
I would probably renew NGT, and that is all.
I will go to the newstands for mags that interests me.
Judy
National Geographic Traveler by a wide margin. I wish I could afford the sites featured in CN Traveler and Travel & Leisure!
PS: Judy, what else would you expect in travel magazine but travel ads? And without the ads, the company couldn't afford to put out the magazine!

I subscribe to 3: Condé Nast (a friend keeps giving it as a gift - but I find the hotel prices more than we want to pay as a rule & it's full of ads); Frommer's Budget (ironically, often less than we want to pay); and itn ("International Travel News") - my absolute favorite. It's very uncommercial & filled with personal recommendations. (I first ran across it at the library.)
I think they'll send you a free issue so you can take a look: 800/486-4968.

Hi Vicki,
I subscribe to "In Britain" the magazine of the British Tourist Authority. I find it very good, with lots of articles, photos and, of course, ads, for places not always on the beaten track. Just for looking at the lovely pictures I also subscribe to "Heritage" which I think is called "Realm" in USA. Every time they arrive, it makes me want to go straight out and buy another ticket. Alas, in Australia, we have to budget hard for Europe, and prepare for a 24 hour flight. Ugh.

Travel and Leisure, Travel Holiday, Frommer's Budget Travel, and Conde Nast's Traveller. I wish I had the budget for Traveller, but I find that they are all useful and have good ideas. And, I have to agree that Traveller has too many ads for my tastes, but at $12 a year for a subscription, I'm not going to complain about it. Surprisingly, the subscription price to Traveller is the least expensive of them all.

Here's one that hasn't been mentioned: International Travel News, published in Sacramento. This is quite different--no shiny, glossy pictures, in fact this is printed magazine size, on cheap newsprint. Has a wealth of useful information, including lots of reader written articles.

Yes, International Travel News is a very informative magazine, with a lot of destinations in Europe discussed (and written by readers which is a bonus). I like it a lot. My least favorite travel mag is Conde Nast also. Arthur Frommers is good if you want a magazine devoted to American travel mostly.

Here's another vote for International Travel News. I always read want to read it immediately. As mentioned, no color pictures, but really good information, I always end up tearing out a couple of items from each issue.
It's sort of a message board in print.
I gave up on Travel and Leisure, still get Conde Nast Traveler but don't like it as well as ITN. National Geographic
Traveler is also great.

I also subscribe to ITN, thanks to a tip on this Forum, plus way too many others for my budget (just don't want to miss anything useful!). The American ones:
Travel Holiday, T&L, Conde Nast Traveller(both the American and British versions), NGT. I used to subscribe to Departures, for the AmEx Platinum members, although I don't have a Platinum card, but their recs are usually very, very high end.
For general travel tips my favorites are NGT and Travel and Leisure.
