what to wear on russian river boat cruise

What type of clothing should we take for a river boat cruise on the Volga. We will be traveling on the Tolstoy arriving in Moscow and ending in St. Petersburg end of July and first of August. Any suggestions.

It will be warm in Moscow, not sure about St Petersburg. The secret is layers!

you should post your question on cruisecritic. you may get an answer other than 'wear cloths' on board and especially on shore.

Not sure if you are looking for weather related info or more of how nicely to dress. We have taken two GCT river cruises - the other passengers dressed pretty casually in the day-time - I wore nice jeans or casual black pants. Lots of khakis on the men. Not a whole lot different at dinner altho several nights were like "captains night" and we would get a bit dressier. No formal wear tho! For weather info - check out weatherbase.com - but its always good to layer!

I guess I was wondering do we need to have a sports coat and dress for ballet? Do we need to dress up or can we wear shorts, capris and tennis shoes? Thanks. Betty

Generally Russians dress up to go out - not dress down -especially to a ballet. Not formalwear but something nice.

It does not start to get cold in Moscow/St Pete until end of September/early October so winter clothes are not needed. As already suggested layers is advisable as it might be hot or a bit chilly, it might be dry or rainy and if you go to the ballet something else to wear apart from casual clothes. Mosquito repellent is advisable.
