what to wear in Paris
We are going to PARIS for a week on 21 July,2007. That's me and my other half (both about 40), and our sons 7 & 9.
We don't know what to pack. We're sightseeing, but for instance, what footwear? And how smartly dreaaed? |
There are hundreds of threads dealing with the subject of what to wear in Paris. About six were started in the last five minutes. I'd encourage you to read them first, and then see if you have any remaining questions.
|
Pour vous: a Goyard St. Louis tote, Taryn Rose ballet flats, black linen pants, and Lilly Pulitzer scoop-neckline tops in bright prep colours.
Pour le husband: Prada flat-front pants in either robin-egg blue or red, linen golf shirts, a Gucci murse, and JP Tod driving shoes. Pour le kids: J Crew or Brooks Brothers resort wear, and Armani aviator sunglasses. Gel their hair. The Great and Powerful Thingorjus |
It doesn't really matter as long as all of you have Gauloises hanging from your lips and the husband sports a murse....

Summing up prior threads (slanted for my own opinion): French adults don't wear shorts, white sneakers or ball-caps in the city.
Beyond that, you'll be fine if you dress for the weather. Jess |
Wear what you would each wear at home in the summer if you were getting dressed for a "dressy casual" occasion.
Footwear, make it comfortable and take two pair per person so you can switch back & forth. |
Make sure you each have 2 good pair of study waterproof walking shoes and a folding umbrella.
Little kids should dress like little kids. Adults should dress so they don;t look like little kids (avoid shorts, university tee shirts, giant white clown sneakers, baseball caps). Assuming you will be mostly casual fine are lightweight pants and polo shirts, for ladies capris, lighweight slacks, lightweight skirts and pretty summer tops. Everyone needs a very lightweight jacket - preferably with hood in case it rains. There is no need for "dressy" unless you plan on going to a truly elegant restaurant. |
