Indeed. But Linley Sambourne had other photographic interests his wife appears not to have known about, and what the Daily Mail isn't telling you is that he might have been, shall we say, scouting for models who might be persuaded to show a bit more than their ankles.

I had just read the other day that the Flatiron buildign in NYC was named "23 Skidoo" because it created a wind tunnel.
Men would hang out waiting for women to pass and watch the wind blow up their skirts. Policemen were posted there chasing the men away by saying, "skidoo"
So women had to handle those big skirts and keep them down too. Not to mention keep them out of the way.
