What to wear in Greece in May

Is it too hot to wear jeans in Greece in May? What kind of clothes do I need to pack? Does my husband need to pack long pants or can he wear longer dress shorts. Thanks!

I was in Greece in early May, 2008. It was comfortable but I wore jeans most of the time. Needed a light jacket for evenings.

Where in Greece are you going to?

I'd have jeans plus something cooler just in case the westher is warmer than expected. We were in Greece in mid-late May and Athens in particular was very hot.

Jeans are fine for May, but I prefer to bring clothes that can be washed in my room and dry quickly. I always bring long pants, because in May it can be cool in the evenings, and some areas have mosquitos. You will also need a sweater or jacket for the evenings.

Daytime temperatures are likely to be in the 70s or maybe a little higher. Shorts and tee shirts are fine for daytime wear.

It will be very very very hot. While jeans are fashionable, they seem to me rather heavy. Stick with lightweight skirts and tops, with sandals..... or a short dress....

Definitely bring long dress shorts for your husband. And some lightweight pants. I don't think he'll get much use out of the jeans, since those can get sticky and hot if the weather is warm.

Just a FYI: We've gone to Greece many times at the end of May, and the weather ranges from 70s-high 80s, then cools down in the evening.

Both of you will want to bring sweatshirts or light jackets/sweaters for the evenings. And you may need those, too, for late afternoons if you spend any time on the beach.

<i>"It will be very very very hot."</i>

In May? Far from it! I've been on the Greek Islands in mid-May when it was so cold that even a sweater and jacket together weren't warm enough to eat outside in the evening. Another time, when getting off the ferry at Naxos in late May, the first Greek word I heard was κρύο (cold). :-D

Most of the time it is tee shirt weather during the day, and jacket weather in the evenings. The later in May, the warmer the weather, and it doesn't get really hot until mid-June. Chances are the weather will be very pleasant, but don't be tempted to leave all your warm clothing at home.

Thanks for the replies! We will be there for the first 2 weeks in May and we will be touring throughout southern Greece and then visiting the islands.
