what to wear in florence mid jan?countryside?

I will be in florence mid january for a few days and would like help regarding what to wear. Would it be as cold as london? Would it still be a good idea to drive along the countryside that I have heard so much about?

I am here now and it is getting quite cold, especially at night so the locals wear padded long coats mostly, gloves and hats. There is a lot of snow in the distant hills already. Have fun

As for the drive in the countryside, you can still decide as you are in Italy. If you see lots of bad weather you might decide to stick to the city and maybe make a few daytrips by train to neighboring Lucca, Pisa, Arezzo or Pistoia (less famous than the above and therefore less crowded, but almost as fascinating and much quieter). If you happen to see bright days, you might as well rent a car and drive. Also, as an alternative to the countryside (usually Chianti area) you might opt for a drive on the Appennini mountains north of Firenze: driving amod ancient woods up to Marradi can be quite an experience in Winter too.
