what to wear in Europe?
Our vacation takes us from, Amsterdam to
Paris, to the black forrest, Bolzano Italy, Salzburg, Munich. We are very laid back people who dress for comfort, not show. Will the same attire do in Europe? shorts and tees in the daytime, dockers and button downs at night? I don't even own a suit. |
Yes, you'll be fine, as long as you don't plan to go to any really fancy restaurants.
Have a great trip! Karen |
You may not see as many shorts as you would in the US, particularly on folks beyond the teens. However, you will see a lot of denim and athletic shoes (the latter in every conceivable shape, style, color, etc.) T-shrts are ubiquitous over there, too. The Dockers and button-downs or even Polo-type shirts are fine, too....and you may see a lot of "designer labels" on Europeans.
Dressing for comfort is always a wise choice IMO. I suppose someone will chime in and tell you that you'll end up looking "like a tourist" but that's what you and a lot of other people will be, including a lot of European tourists. |
Skip the shorts. Otherwise, it sounds fine.
Cheers, Jan |
If the holiday is planned anytime between now and next May, you're likely to be hospitalised for exposure wearing shorts almost anywhere north of the Alps.
Barring an exceptional Indian summer, bring your shorts only if you're an optimist. |
Sounds like there could be mixed feelings about what to wear, so I will bring more, long pants then shorts.
Thanx, BigBoy |
Our vacation is from sept 13-27.

I agree with Flanneruk. It was 12 degrees this morning! That is about 56 degrees F, and I live in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
Many men wear the longer board shorts or a mens equivalent to capris. Very cool look, esp. with clogs! Just right for the coffee shops in Amsterdam! ;) Cheers, Jan |

Even here in Italy, things have cooled down a bit. For the past 3 nights, I have had to close my windows because it was too chilly. Is autumn already approaching?? :(
|
Many Europeans (especially Germans) wear shorts while on vacation. As someone else mentioned, shorts would be unusual in a nice restaurant--but that's just common sense. Unless it is hot, I would go more with long pants than with shorts, but if it is hot, be comfortable.

My wife and I are both 42 so I think
broad shorts and clogs may not be the look I am going for ( LOL ) but thanx for the suggestion. |
I knew you would say that! :)
But many middle age men wear them here. Not that you are middle age or anything. ((6)) You will probably start seeing them in the States in about 2-3 years! Cheers and have a great visit, Jan |
Oh sure, pick on the OLD guy. LOL
