What to see in Burgundy

This fall my wife and I will spend three weeks cycling from Angers to Beaune (Burgundy). Any suggestions about towns/sight to visits and perhaps any particularly scenic routes?

Also, any suggestions for a moderately priced hotel/B&B in Angers? We will be there for three nights.

Thanks.

In Angers, I can recommend the Hotel du Mail, which is listed here on Fodors. You can see some photos and contact the hotel re booking at this URL:

The managers are very warm, but do not speak much English. Rooms are attractive, while the public areas are quite elegant. A generous buffet breakfast is included in the rates.

Definitely see the chateau with its lovely garden moat and incredible tapestries while you are there.

I too recommend the Hotel du Mail. I stayed there in May of 2001. It's a great location between the train station and the castle a little north of a line drawn between the two. It's centrally located but down a small side street. Between that and the courtyard for parking it was very quiet.

In Angers see the castle and tapestries (a given), the Maison du Vin across the street from the castle is very nice too lots of wines to sample. The museum for David d'Angers the sculptor is beautiful. It's an old church with the roof replaced with glass. You get to see his sculptures outdoors as they were meant to be seen but they're inside. The Cointreau liquer manufacturing is done on the edge of town. I didn't make it through there.

Going through the Loire Valley some of the smaller towns I enjoyed were Saumur, Chinon, Chenonceaux, Amboise and Beaugency. Bigger towns I liked were Tours and Blois.
