What to see in Amalfi Coast for 4 days with a 1 yr old?
 

We will be spending 5 nights in the Amalfi Coast. Arriving from Rome on the 1st day. We are traveling with our 1 yr old son who can walk. We will be staying in Massa Lubrense and have a rental car with us. We will carry our son using a backpack as we hear it is not feasible to use a stroller. We definitely want to see Pompeii, Positano, Ravello and Amalfi. Can we combine some of these towns?

Is it worth going to Sorrento and/or Capri as day trips with a 1 yr old?

Any ideas are appreciated! Thanks

Day 1 - arrive in Massa Lubrense from Rome (possibly stopping for a break in Naples)
Day 2 - Go to Pompei as a day trip, is it better to drive or take a train?
Day 3- Go to Positano and Ravello?
Day 4 - Go to Amalfi?
Day 5 - Go to Sorrento or Capri? or any other suggestions?
Day 6 - Drive to Tuscany

We are going in mid September

It is more logical to combine Ravello and Amalfi.
I would train to Pompeii from Sorrento---get off at Pompeii Scavi stop. Here are some images to enjoy:

You could go to Pompeii in the morning, and then Sorrento for dinner.

That might be how I would organize. No particular order for the days.

Is your baby heavy?

Does your baby get motion sickness?

...and do YOU, Fluke, get motion sickness?? That coast road is incredible, spectacular, but very winding. I'll never forget the poor Frenchman who puked, then dry-retched, for miles of the bus trip...while his wife calmly perused a map!

I was glad to have taken Boninie (Meclizine) before starting out!

that's "bonine" not boninie. it's the least drowsy-making motion-sickness OTC med.

I don't know if my baby has motion sickness as I have never taken him on a windy road. He is 25lbs. I only got motion sickness when I was pregnant but this is very good advice!

if I go to Capri, what should I do there, as I don't believe I can take a baby to the Blue Grotto.

There's a left-luggage place at the harbour on Capri, however I don't think they offer creche facilities!

There's one for wheelchair and stroller users, "Friendly Pompei", which was meant to have been extended - however I've seen no sign they've been able to fit that in amongst the work they've had to do recently?

You'll know what the drive was like by the time you have to decide but, especially if taking the car, do note that it starts from the site's Piazza Anfiteatro entrance, where the going is much easier than the climb to the Porta Marina gate!

Alilauro have a daily hydrofoil from Sorrento at 09:30 - 45 minutes across the Bay, €36 for the round trip, with under 2s free; tickets from the GESCAB kiosk at the Marina Piccola. And it returns at 17:20...

In Sorrento, there is a more flat part of town at the center that is pleasant to walk around and could accommodate a stroller.

The center of Capri Town is very crowded with high end shops and lots of tourists. A bus or taxi from the harbor to Anacapri might be very nice. There is a very small town center then a flat sort of promenade with the very beautiful Villa San Michele at the end, and fabulous views.

I know children can take Dramamine but I'm not sure what the age/weight limit is. you could ask your doctor. It might make him very sleepy.

do NOT use dramamine. It'll wipe you out for the rest of the day. Bonine/meclizine has less drowsifying effect.
