What to see btwn Prague and Frankfurt?

What would you recommend as good 1/2 point between these two cities? I'll be traveling via train from Prague and am looking to cut the long trip in half and find a nice place to stop for the afternoon/night before continuing on to the Rhine valley. Or, has anyone taken a night train from Prague to FRA? If so, how was your experience?

Nürnberg would be a nice place for an overnight stay. Although I like Bamberg, which is not far away, more because it is smaller and more charming.

Another option - It might be somewhat out of the way, but doable - Dresden or Leipzig. Both have ICE connections w/o change to Frankfurt.

Bamberg is an absolute gem--one of the highlights of our trip to Germany last June.

Another vote for Bamburg. Karlovy Vary is also very nice.

I agree that Bamberg is indeed a gem, but to me if Bamberg, Nuremberg, and Wurzburg are gems then Dresden would be the crown jewels.

Neat site, D_T--brought back pleasant memories of the castle hotel at Colmberg.
