I’d also recommend Nice! I had the best trip there last year—so much to see and do, plus the public transport makes it easy to explore nearby spots like Monaco and Eze. You might want to check out this tourism guide on France which provides more details on different regions and what to expect https://gowithguide.com/blog/tourism...d-to-know-5275

Strasbourg also appeals since it's only a 2 hour train ride from Paris. Both options would allow taking the train between cities rather than dealing with backtracking flights. Hopefully some of these suggestions are helpful as you start planning the perfect mother-daughter trip :)

I agree. Annecy is easy enough to visit and fits snugly into itineraries, but I would not plan a trip around it.

I also don't agree that you can't do another country as it doesn't really make sense given a country that borders France will be no farther, and easily shorter than some destination within France. Switzerland, for example, would b e closer than going to the Dordogne. Belgium and Netherlands, also. Even London would be.

It doesn't take me an entire day just to move to another city and check in to a hotel. It can take a few hours, that's all. The fact that I can't check in until afternoon is irrelevant to me. YOu leave your bags there and go out and do stuff. It's no different than if you had checked in, to me. I think people may be making travel too complicated if they spend hours packing or unpacking. I don't spend hardly any time, at least for the smaller points (I mean if I'm on a long trip and staying in a place quite a while, I unpack more, but if just one night or two, I don't hardly unpack at all, just what's on top, shoes, etc.

I just haven't been to any place in France where a lake was a centerpoint so can't help on that point. The problem is I"m most interesting in cities or towns, not resort areas or lakes. There isn't any great lake area in France that I know of that is very interesting. Annecy of course is the usual mention. I haven't been there but some people seem to think Brittany has nice scenery, at least on the coasts. You can get there by train from Paris in a few hours. ANd the issue is the requirement to do rural but without a car, which makes it difficult. I think Brittany would work. Sure, Annecy would if you just want to do nothing for a while.

Very well said.

Brittany has a lot to offer, and not just on the coasts, though obviously that is what most people focus on.

Count me as one that with that amount of time, I'd stick with Paris and do day trips if desired. No one has mentioned Rouen, but that is an hour and a half train ride from Paris, and looks to be lovely. I'll be there in a couple of weeks for the first time. It's the city where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake. There are other "train-able" places to visit for a day trip, too - Fontainebleau, Auvers-Sur-Oise, where Van Gogh painted, died and is buried, Giverny.. the list is endless. No one has mentioned the time of year you're going. Those southern cities are more likely to be quite hot and many places have no A/C. Also - it's when Europeans take their holidays, so some places will be packed and others will be closed. I'll have 5 nights in Paris coming soon, and I wish I had more time there. There is something to be said for slowing down and immersing yourself in a place...

Since OP prefers scenic beauty to museums then options are:
1. Base in Paris with day trips to Strasbourg, Rouen, Giverny, Lille, Bayeux, or Versailles.
2. 3 nights Paris, then train to gorgeous Aix en Provence and take day tours to Luberon villages, etc. Fly home from Marseilles.
3. 3 nights Paris, then train to Antibes with day trips to Saint Paul de Vence, Menton, Monaco, Villefranche by public transport. Bonus: Billionaires Bay in Antibes. Fly home from Nice.

Aix, Antibes, and Nice have excellent tourist offices to help you figure it all out.
