What to pack - Paris in winter
 

I'm planning a one-week trip to Paris in February and I'm unsure what type of clothing to bring knowing that it's definitely winter but I only want to bring a 22" wheeled carry-on and small tote. Any suggestions?

Layered clothing, always..umbrella, scarf, gloves. Just wear mainly black. That will make it easy for packing. I always take a black cashmere cardigan. cardigan.

Dont forget a nice down jacket to keep you warm..Paris weather can be very challenging , the sun don't shine too often, the sky is grey and you feel the dampness in your bones ...
But is a BEAUTIFUL city, just keep warm..

First time I went to Paris was in February. Had a wonderful time, but man oh man was it COLD!!! I think the 3 days we were there it didn't get above 25 degrees F.

Definitely take (somewhat) lighter things you can layer, instead of big bulky sweaters. But that said.... Even if it's cold as all heck, I know you'll have a great time!

By all means bring a lined raincoat, gloves, and warm shoes or boots. Beyond that, the layered approach is ideal. You probably know already that black is the color of choice, set off by luscious scarves, and using basic black will allow you to keep your luggage to a minimum.

Just got back from Paris and it was cold, colder than Chicago LOL! I didn't have a lightweight winter coat so I went out and bought a Columbia weatherproof coat in a larger size (with an interior zipper pocket that was invaluable) and then brought a fleece pullover (wore it on the plane) and turtlenecks to wear underneath and I was perfectly toasty.

Add to that a hat, gloves and umbrella and you will be set.

Paris doesn't see a lot of snow but it does on occasion and seems to throw them into a tizzy. I'd also bring an extra pair of shoes with good treads, a good thing to wear on the plane if you are conserving space.

And remember that if you are planning on visiting a lot of inside places (museums, stores, etc.) that you will be carrying whatever coat you bring with which is why I left my wool coat and down coat at home and went for the layered look.

And if you want to blend in , by all means, bring your scarf, it is the fashion accessory of choice in Paris!

I just bought a microfiber 3/4 length "fluffy" (for lack of a better description) coat for our week in Paris. It should be rain-repellant, and having spent a Feb week in London a couple of years ago, I thought it made sense. I, too, am bringing mostly black pants with tops that can also go with khaki pants...One nice (dressy) pair of slacks and shoes and a dressy blouse in case we make it to a nice restaurant. I will wear the big coat on the plane (read: stuff in the overhead) so I can pack more. I will also bring something more lightweight in case the weather Gods smile upon us.
As for the scarf, I will buy one in Paris!
