what to pack for italy in March

16 year old daughter is going to Italy with school in March. Any suggestions for packing? Will a light spring coat do?

Italy is a pretty good size and diverse country, geographically. There is still major league skiing in its Alps in March, and probably gets down to 25 degrees F or less in those places most nights.

Where in Italy? (and March 1? or March 31?)

For detailed statistics, I would recommend www.worldclimate.com or www.weatherbase.com (gives average number of days below 32 degrees F for many locations).

Best wishes,

Rex

Bring layers. The weather does vary that time of year and it may rain. In March '01 when we were there, it started out maybe 50s and drizzly in Venice, 6 days later in Rome it hit 80 during the day. Check the extended forecast before you leave. A mid-weight coat with maybe a warm sweater or fleece, just in case would probably do. Also bring an umbrella.

Rex:
Bulk of time spent in Rome & Florence. They leave March 11th for 11 days.

Do you happen to be the parent of a CHHS choir member?

We were in Italy for 2 weeks last March. It can be cold, chilly, rainy and clear. I took some warm things to layer, but I did have a long microfiber coat with a zip out lining that felt very good everywere we walked in March.
