What to pack
I leave for Ireland tomorrow. Should I pack my wool pea coat?
|
Which part of Ireland? Over here in galway, there's been an unusual amount of sun the past week or so.
Whatever coat you decide to bring, make sure it's waterproof. I bought a wool pea coat over Christmas and have yet to use it cause it's not rain proof. N it takes up quite a bit of space in the luggage... |
Layers work best, i.e., a wool sweater under and a waterproof jacket over. A cardigan sweater is best because if it warms up you can always take it off. If it's really cold, wear two sweaters - much easier to deal with than a heavy pea coat.

Amen to layers. Just got back ten days ago. My three basic layers were a cashmere V-neck pullover, a fleece zip-up cardigan, and a waterproof jacket with hood (Marmot PreCip). Used them in different combinations, and one day I did indeed use all three.
|
Only if you're going to Siberia. It's almost June. Have multiple thin layers that you can add or remove - if the temp is 50 (way too warm for a pea coat IMHO) or 70.
|
How about my knee high boots...they're made in China, so doubt they are leather, but would they be silly to wear?
We'll be in Southwest Ireland next week! |
Ireland is NOT cold - even in the winter - and certainly not in the summer. It doesn;t have hot summers - but I can;t imagine how it can be cold enough to wear boots except in mid winter.
|
Ha ha...I live in Florida, and wear boots in our winter - 65 degrees!
|
I'm also leaving soon for Ireland, 10-day trip the last of June.
How warm are the warm days? Should I pack sandals and capris? What kind of shoes are best? Our itinerary includes Dublin to Galway, Aran Islands, Doolin, Cliffs of Moher/Burren, Killarney, Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry, Kenmare, Kinsale, on over to Glendalough, flying out of Dublin. |
Marlita we are doing basically the same itinerary at the end of July. I hope you post a trip report or recommendations!! And please let me know if you wore sandals and capris, I'm really having lots of trouble deciding what to pack!!!
